Build Your Intuitive Practice with Consultation & Mentorship with Dr. Shannon Hughes
You’re Weaving (and Being Woven into) a Great Tapestry
In my experience, bridging the worlds of professional practice and intuitive inner guidance work was scary, intimidating, and full of uncertainty around how all the threads of my Self could possibly come together in an authentic expression of me. In my 15 years of academia, I had learned to compartmentalize my interests for the sake of maintaining professional regard and credibility. I was tied to an identity that came with a lot of privileges, as well as a lot of assumptions and expectations.
For years, I quietly dedicated myself to establishing a clear line of communication with what I consider my Higher Self or Guides, slowly embodying a sense of clarity, focus, and empowerment in my own life through this channel. I opened a private practice (against the advice of my departmental director, as I was still pre-tenure at that time) with the aim of exploring whether this intuitive channel I developed within myself could possibly be meaningful to anyone else. I found that my Guides would share messages with me from the Guides of others, and thus my client work became based in channeling words of validation and encouragement to help people identify, connect with, and trust their own inner guidance.

I couldn’t see for a long time how the many disparate threads of my life’s work could possibly weave together. As I expanded my practice to include medicine work, the potency of my guidework tripled and even more awe and magic flooded my practice. In forming Elemental with my trusted business partner, my background as an educator, researcher, and community-builder came full circle as well. One day I realized that I was living my prayer: for all parts of me to be expressed in all that I do.
Over the years, I’ve supported hundreds of people in building greater trust with the wisdom within. I help people connect with a greater sense of awe, synchronicity, creative source, and guidance in their lives. For mental health professionals and others building a practice involving medicine work, I help you hone and practice your own intuitive gifts and examine how to hold them ethically and with care in relational altered states work.

We all have intuitive channels and access to the
clarity and answers that we’re seeking.
As you consider whether consultation or mentorship with me might be right for you, take a moment to reflect on the following questions:
-
Do you want to ground your client work in deep, abiding trust of a Mystery that weaves itself like a tapestry?
-
Do you want clearer access to your own answers, gaining more clarity, focus, direction, and trust in your own life?
-
Do you want to learn the mechanics of establishing or continuing to build your intuitive channels?
-
Do you crave devotional practices or more concrete opportunities to connect with something beyond that becomes a real relationship in your life?
-
Do you want to explore how to offer your intuitive self in client work in a way that maintains good boundaries, ethics, and relational care?
-
Do you struggle to see yourself as an “intuitive practitioner” or how you might integrate your existing professional practice with this other dimension of yourself?
-
Do you want someone on your team who can support you in staying clear and focused, on path with yourself, and ever-deepening into the living embodiment of your prayers and visions?

What's the Difference Between Consultation and Mentorship?
Consultation in this context is one or a few sessions where you have something specific you’re seeking clarity and support around. Consultation is great for those seeking a few useful tidbits about their intuitive gifts, devotional practice, or specific questions about their path forward.
Mentorship is an ongoing relationship consisting of regular coaching sessions for 6 months or longer. Prior to each session, I connect with your Guides to receive a written message that will frame our coaching work together. Beyond the basics of understanding your spiritual communication gifts, mentorship digs deeper. We unpack what’s really holding you back, get clear about what you really want, practice your own intuitive channel, and build the type of trusting partnership between you and your Higher Self that becomes the basis for how you move through your life’s work.

If you want to reflect on your intuitive gifts and client work in a supportive communal space, you may be interested in Elemental’s Inner Guidance Consultation Group. In this group, we cover the essentials of spiritual communication gifts and share a lot about how we’re each building our natural medicine facilitator practice with clients.

What if I’m not sure about spirituality or my intuitive gifts?
My aim in consultation and mentorship is to help you connect more deeply, clearly, and powerfully with your inner guidance system. You might call it inner wisdom, inner self, intuition, or Higher Self. There is no need to “be spiritual” in order to connect with your own inner wisdom. Our inner wisdom is there for each of us, at all times and without condition, to access and partner with, as much as we choose to listen to and trust it. If tapping into your inner guidance connects you to a spiritual framework, that’s great. And if it doesn’t, that’s fine too.
If you’re not sure what your intuitive gifts are, that’s not a problem! Part of our work together is to identify your primary intuitive channel so that you can begin to build a relationship with it. Wherever you’re starting from, that’s where we’ll start, and we’ll build and deepen from there.
What if I’m not offering psychedelic-assisted therapy or natural medicine work, but still want consultation and mentorship?
Whether you are a therapist, psychologist, social worker, doctor, or you come from a completely different professional background, we can work together. Having a psychedelic practice with clients is not a necessary precondition, and in fact, is only a small sidenote to what our work together will truly encompass. Over the years, I’ve supported people from all different backgrounds and industries and I’ve learned that we all have access to guidance from right where we stand. Acknowledging it, practicing it, building a trusting partnership with it, and bringing it into your life in real and tangible ways is what our work is really about.
