Continuing Education for Natural Medicine Facilitators
As the landscape of natural medicine in Colorado evolves, staying current with state regulations and advancing practice skills is essential for every licensed facilitator.
Elemental’s Continuing Education series is designed to deepen your skill level, meet (and exceed) state requirements in Colorado, and support your ongoing personal, professional, and spiritual development in the big work of mushroom medicine.
Our Continuing Education (CE) series is open to licensed facilitators in Colorado seeking to accumulate their annual required CE hours, and also to interested professionals, guides, and space holders in any state seeking to obtain extra education on topics of interest to them. A certificate of completion for your educational hours will be issued regardless of your status or background.

Understanding DORA’s
Continuing Education Rules
In Colorado, the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) has established specific requirements for continuing education hours. Key rules for maintaining an active facilitator’s license include:

Total Hours Required
-
All Natural Medicine Facilitators and Clinical Facilitators must complete at least 12 hours of Continuing Education during each one-year license period.
Ethics Requirement
-
Education in ethics is a priority. You must complete at least 4 hours of ethics education relating to natural medicine for each full year of licensure (calculated as 1 hour of ethics per full quarter).
Timing
-
CE requirements begin immediately upon receiving your license. If you are licensed for only part of a year, your requirements are prorated at 1 hour of CE per month of licensure.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
-
In addition to CE hours, you must maintain an active certification in Basic Life Support at all times. You can contact your local Red Cross for opportunities to obtain or renew your BLS.
Record Keeping
-
You are responsible for maintaining your own CE records—including certificates of completion with the date, hours, and course synopsis—for at least 4 years.
Elemental’s Featured Course on Advanced Ethics (4-Hour CE)
Elemental’s premier offering is a deep-dive 4-hour virtual module specifically designed to meet Colorado’s annual ethics requirements. Led by experienced practitioners including Elemental’s Clinical Director Dori Lewis, Embodied Ethics guide Christianne Pelmas, and author of Healing Psychedelics Micah Stover, this course offers an in-depth examination of the distinctive and often complex ethical issues within mushroom medicine work.
Advanced Ethics Highlights:
-
Inner Ethics Inquiry: Explore your personal values and beliefs to build an internal framework that guides your work as a facilitator.
-
Boundary Violations: A critical look at subtle boundary violations that cause real harm, with real-life examples to understand how to prevent harm. Examine the ethics of physical contact and how to maintain safety through clear agreements.
-
The Ethics of Consent: Examine the process of dynamic informed consent and ethical relationship-building with mushroom allies.

Our fully virtual Advanced Ethics Continuing Education module will be available starting in spring 2026. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified.
